Adoptee Authors

When I finally began coming out of the fog as an adoptee at the half-century mark of my life, I searched for someone walking the same road. I was amazed at how many of us there are! Another adoptee, unraveling relinquishment, crawling through the swamp of reunion. I’m not sure why I didn’t seek out books about adoption/adoptee/search and reunion decades earlier? I think it was all part of staying in the fog.

But when the fog lifted, I craved connection with other adoptees whose similar stories assured me that I was not going crazy, I was not imagining things and one day, I was going to be O.K. These connections were my life line. I’m not even kidding. I’m so thankful for these brave souls who openly share their journeys. I hope you find encouragement through the scars – lived and written by adoptees – just like you….

The books that helped me the most were recommended to me by other adoptees. The following list was compiled from adoptee recommendations. The goal here is to give you a starting place to choose from the plethora of books available. I haven’t read all of these so I cannot endorse them, but simply provide a place to start in your book search.
